Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan agree to establish “permanent trilateral forum”

Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan have agreed to form a permanent trilateral forum which will enable them to consult on mutual issues mainly grievances and differences on the Ethiopia’s dam being built on river Nile, reports said on Friday.The agreement came late on Thursday after leaders of the three countries held a trilateral consultation to further boost their relationship at Sharma el-Sheikh, Egypt.

Executive Assistant to the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Getachew Reda said the leaders in particular discussed about how they could implement the Declaration of Principles they signed in Khartoum regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

“The discussion of Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, and Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir focused on ways of further collaborating in economic, social and political spheres as well the executive assistant said.

The meeting would strengthen the process of trust-based strong relationship of the countries, it was indicated.

Ethiopia has been assuring the lower riparian countries that the dam would not cause any harm to downstream countries.
